Public Relations

Why Public Relations is essential to business growth?

Unless you run an offshore company most business enterprises engage the public at one point or another.
That “public” might be Government or another corporate enterprise, as is the case with Business to Business-geared firms or Business to Government firms.
The very important individual citizen is relevant to small and large companies, for example the entrepreneur starting out on a chain of pet shops or the conglomerate subsidiary selling security solutions. A fast food chain sells directly to the individual.
The company’s corporate image needs to be maintained in a healthy way and it needs to be projected positively and in a sustained manner.

Companies that recognise the importance of Public Relations to the growth of their business will make it a priority area of management for their Chief Executive Officer.
An important consideration for CEO involvement stems from the fact that company executives thing inside out rather than outside in when it comes to the media. That mindset says how can I use the media to achieve my goals without understanding the raison d’etre of the media, or what is the role of the media in a modern society.

That role is not to undertake a company’s Public Relations for them. But with some good “Thought Leadership” or “New Thinking” courtesy of your Public Relations consultancy the CEO can take the first steps in moving out of the box and utilising Public Relations creatively to grow their business.
While sales and marketing will always be important Public Relations is one way of staying in contact, albeit in an indirect way, with that vital customer.

Increasingly, competition demands that companies seek to distinguish themselves from the “other” players in the market, which might be an international, regional or local market.
The approaches of competing cellular companies is one example. These companies tend to go after their customers in a very aggressive way. Capturing a market segment is one thing and companies advertise and promote themselves differently.

But capturing the hearts of their customers requires education and information utilising print and electronic media hand in hand.

A Public Relations company will sit with the Chief Executive Officer, study the company’s marketing plan and present that company with an annual or half-yearly plan which would be subject to regular review.
As more entrepreneurs invest in opportunities for business development they will need to give priority attention to how they utilise Public Relations.
